Set up RVWS Photo Reviews

Before you start

  • A Shopify store on an Online Store 2.0 theme
  • A CSV export from your current review app, if you're switching
  • Your store's sender email set in Shopify

Setup steps

  1. Install RVWS

    Apps › RVWS

    Install the app and approve its permissions. The Free plan includes unlimited reviews, so you can set everything up before deciding on Pro.

  2. Bring in your existing reviews

    RVWS › Import & export › Import

    Export reviews as a CSV from your current app (most apps email it to you), then upload it here. RVWS matches reviews to products and keeps photos, replies and tags.

    Leave your old app installed until the import finishes, then uninstall it so two widgets don't show.

  3. Add the Product reviews block

    Online Store › Themes › Customize › Product page › Add block › Apps › Product reviews

    Place it below the product description, or in its own section near the bottom of the page. Click Save.

  4. Add the Star rating block

    Product page › Add block › Apps › Star rating

    Drag it directly under the product title so the rating is the first thing shoppers see.

  5. Turn on the app embed

    Theme settings › App embeds › Reviews

    Switch on the Reviews embed and save. It powers star ratings on collection pages, the floating reviews tab and review pop-ups.

  6. Set up review requests

    RVWS › Review requests › Settings

    Requests are sent automatically after each order is fulfilled. Choose how many days to wait and edit the email under Emails & SMS. Pro adds reminders, scheduling rules and SMS.

  7. Moderate and reply

    RVWS › Reviews

    Choose whether new reviews publish automatically or wait for approval under Settings. Reply publicly from any review.

After setup

  • Install LYLTY to give members points for writing reviews.
  • On Pro, offer a discount code for photo reviews under Coupons & referrals.
  • Submit your Google Shopping feed from Integrations (Pro).

Troubleshooting

Stars don't show on collection pages.

Turn on the Reviews app embed under Theme settings → App embeds and save.

Review request emails aren't sending.

Check that requests are turned on under Review requests and that orders are being marked fulfilled.

Imported reviews are on the wrong product.

Reviews are matched by product handle. If you changed handles, edit the CSV to the current handles and import again.
